He was at Carter for a total of 29 years. Carter's band/band members have been featured in the Dallas Morning News, Elite News, Ebony Magazine, local and national TV, radio stations, state competitions and many other outlets. They were the first African American band to appear in the invitation only, nationally televised Neiman-Marcus Adolphus Christmas Parade. They were invited to march in two Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl parades. He has former students who have performed with Kirk Franklin, the DFW Mass choir, B. B. King, and Bobby Blue Bland just to name a few. Former students have formed their own jazz/R & B/Brass bands. Under his tutelage, Carter produced 11 drum majors at six different HBCU bands.
